The Bering Sea conjures up all kinds of things in the mind---exploration, saltwater fishing, stormy weather, rough seas, the 'Deadliest Catch’ and the struggle between nature and man. It is a marginal sea of the Northern Pacific Ocean and way up there from most of us. It forms, along with the Bering Strait, the divide between Eurasia and the Americas. It’s a cold, unyielding area that many of us do not get to see except for the souls who sail the high seas and the Alaskans and Russians who have forged their way. So much history in this region along with the strides made by the explorer who bears its name, Vitus Bering. This Black Pyrite Stones in this bracelet represents the colors and tones of those rough, dark gray seas. The Stainless-Steel Nuts and Aluminum pieces represent man and the metal parts/gears of the ships that plow their way through those waves without observation. The Hand-Carved Yak Bone Beads have a tribal and spiritual aspect that reflects those who work its coastline (the beads remind me of old scrimshaw). Included is an Antique Anchor Button made in England and 2 Bone Mala Skulls that are a shout-out to the maritime history and hardship man faces up there. This piece looks the business and makes a strong, bold statement for the person who wears it.
