Helnaes (Helnæs) is a little, out-of-the-way island on the southwestern coast of Funen in Denmark. There’s a nice little roadway bridge leading out to the island with the crashing sea on either side and a picturesque lighthouse built as its main attraction in 1901. It's not a destination for the tourist hoards because there's not much to do except explore the island on foot. The highest point of the island is Galgebakke, at only 29 feet so there is no need for the serious hiking boots. However, Helnaes is a perfect little place for some solitude and to bring in that lively salty air into the lungs. The scenery is quite quaint and the colors from the grassy bluffs to the sea seem a little muted...like a nice camera filter.
