The Big Island of Hawaii is as good as it gets. Most of us are familiar with the Kona side (leeward or dry side of the island) mainly because of the resorts, famous spots and because it’s sunnier and warmer  which is key while on vacation. Not very many tourists get to the Hilo side of the Island---the windward or wet or lush side. Hilo (both the side and town) is also known by the locals as the quiet side and is more laid back than the Kailua-Kona side. Exploring Hilo also gives you a chance to check off areas that are off the beaten track and to experience a real nostalgic feel of Hawaii. The landscape is lush thanks to the rain so beware when heading over to that side. But man is it green and the smell of Plumeria is abundant in the air. When there, ya gotta check out Rainbow Falls, the famous Akaka Falls and Papakolea Green Sand Beach. When in Hilo Town, hit the farmer’s market twice a week with over 200 local vendors…and again, the Plumeria is really pungent in the air. The residents there are very friendly and seem to just go about their business in a relaxed way, which is the way we all should go. This bracelet is a shout-out to that often-overlooked side of the Big Island.
