Jethou is a small 44-acre island that is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. It is a privately leased from the British Crown and is not open to the public so most of us can only gaze at it from the sea (I love the fact that we aren't allowed on it). it's a wonderful gem of a place off the Island of Herm and the main Guernsey Islands, Obviously it’s a solitary place pretty much enjoyed by the birds and the ones who can manage to crawl up on its shore. There are a couple residences on it and some windswept trees, but otherwise it’s basically a rocky knoll surrounded by water…which is perfect eh? Jethou means 'small or tiny island' by the Vikings & Normans and it is rumored that many pirates were hanged on it back in the day. Some of the best places are the ones we'll never get to. This bracelet was made with 2 pieces of driftwood (from the Northwest Puget Sound), Black Impression Jasper and Carved & Smooth Yak Bone to resemble some of the colors this island showcases on a stormy day. The components of this piece look like some of the things that might have washed up on its shores. I added an Antique English Naval Button (stamped Made in England) to represent it's British Heritage and naval/fishing pedigree along with a Bone Mala Skull as a shout out to the salty souls that have sailed around its shoreline. This bracelet has a nice maritime look and feel to it that makes ya just want to grumble “Arrrrrrr.” There’s an island out there that a most people will never get to see so go find a skiff and search it out…its name is Jethou.
