The Road to Mandalay is based on a Rudyard Kipling Poem about a working-class colonial soldier who longs to return to Mandalay, a city in Myanmar, to reunite with his Burmese lover. There are movies, a casino in Las Vegas and some amazing crooner songs based on it (the best is by Frank Sinatra in my opinion). It reflects the feeling of the time and gives your heart a yearning for the exotic. The actual city of Mandalay is very picturesque, on the Irrawaddy River and is famous for being the old royal capital of Myanmar. Plus, it has a ton of spectacular Buddhist and religious temples peppered throughout the city and surrounding areas. Basically, Mandalay is a very romanticized place both physically and in the heart. The green foliage and reddy brown textures of the buildings carpet the city and give it a nice peacefulness, especially at sunrise. This bracelet has a look & feel of the religious temples and native flavors of Mandalay. The Hand-Carved Agate and the unique Hand-Carved Yak Bone Beads do give it a spiritual substance. The Smooth Yak Bone strewn throughout this piece gives it an ancient charm and the Large Bone Mala Skull is there as a true prayer/mala bead. This bracelet has a very organic and ancient feel to it due to its textures and colors. Not very many travelers seem to venture out this way. There are many roads to pursue, but there is only road to Mandalay. Peace brothers and sisters!
