The Irish are known for their poetry, music and fighting spirit. Nothing captures all there of these like the song The Rock Road To Dublin written back in the nineteenth century by D.K. Gavin and made famous in old dance hall across all the isles. This song talks about a man leaving his home in County Galway and traveling abroad to Dublin to find work. Upon arrival he is robbed and mocked by the locals. He then boards a ship for rough travel to Liverpool and upon his arrival, he is abused and mocked there for being Irish. He decides to fight back with some of his fellow countrymen to take a stand. This song is about the emigrant experience back in those days and about pride and cultural identity. It’s a song that makes you want to drown in a pint of Guinness or to get up and kick the dust off the floor. There are so many great renditions of this song, but no one performs it better that The Dubliners. This bracelet was inspired by this old tune.
