The term “Split Sails” often refers to a type of sail design where the sail is divided into two halves, effectively creating two separate sails. These sails are often used in sailing to improve windward ability and efficiency. This bracelet was based loosely on that term and on a couple other observations. Sometimes out of the rough seas, seeing and hearing a canvas start to split is a terrifying sound and one that gets the blood pumping. When leaning into the wind, you often get to see the sun and beautiful blue sky shining though or splitting the sails which is a wonderful thing. Hitting the high seas in the open Pacific, the calm Caribbean, the rough Atlantic and the windy Aegean can be quite special. There is something very peaceful about being on any sailboat and it gives you a connection to the sea…almost as if you are on the same par with it for just a brief moment. If you look at this bracelet, you will see many lines, textures and colors that resemble the moments with those canvas sails I mentioned above. The Hand-Carved Yak Horn & Ox Bone and African Glass give it those lines. The Recycled Glass represents the deep blue color of the sea and the Bone Mala Skull represents the peace you only find when on the open ocean. This piece really does have a sailing look to it and hopefully it inspires you to get out on the water. Pick a point, push some wind into your sails and see where it takes you. Aloha!
