The Bayon Temple is located in Cambodia and is a richly decorated Khmer temple related to Buddhism at Angkor. Its Khmer architecture contrasts with the classical style of Angkor Wat which is more way more famous. Bayon's most distinctive features are the numerous serene and smiling stone faces of Buddha---there are 4 on each tower pointing to the 4 sides of the temple. Amazingly, there are a total of 54 towers decorated with 216 giant smiling faces. It’s a kick and seeing all those faces does make you smile and gives you some sense of collective peace. Depending on what time of day you’re there, the ancient stone of this temple seems to change color when the light hits it. It can influence your mood and does wonders for your photography.
