Those crystal clear, aqua blue waters you seek are found in the Maldives. The Republic of Maldives (known as the Maldive Islands) is an archipelagic country located in the eastern Arabian Sea within the northern Indian Ocean. It’s about 475 miles from India and Sri Lanka and is the smallest country in Asia. It consists of 26 atolls that stretch across the equator over 35,000 square miles. The Maldives is also the lowest country in the world and has a tropical monsoon climate. There’s lots of history and trade going back to ancient times and is now influenced by the cultures of the people of different ethnicities who settled there. Fishing was its primary resource, but now it’s one of the top tropical destinations in the world since the late 1970’s. And why must you ask? The marine life alone and the white sandy beaches are all you need to know. The Maldives has over 2,000 species of fish cruising those coral atolls which makes it a scuba and snorkeling dream. It feels like you can see for miles under the water and it’s very hard not to be in the water all day.
